AP.bmp AP European Third Marking Period Assignment

Students will be asked to pick a particular historical event or topic to write about. Students are to use no less than three secondary sources and one primary source in researching. The final paper itself should be no less than five pages long and give a “well-rounded” view of the topic from multiple perspectives.

  1. Five paragraph essay style with an introduction (explaining why the event is important in the context of European History - before and after), three "meaty" paragraphs (with all sorts of facts and reflections), and a closing paragraph (summing up your points and ending with a "kicker").
  2. Format demands: No less than five FULL pages (none of this 4 and 1/2 crap), size 12 font in style "Times New Roman", double space with normal margins at the top, bottom and sides.
  3. All facts and information must be cited using footnotes or end notes (your choice). Formatting help can be found here.
  4. Three secondary sources means three different sources (not three Wikipedia pages - Wikipedia is a single source)! In addition you must use each source at least twice for it to "count".
  5. One of the secondary sources must also exist in the real world (i.e. - a book). Go to the Newark H.S. library, the Newark Public Library (across the street from school) or the UD Library and do some actual research.
  6. The primary source must be referenced and discussed in your paper.
  7. Only one person can do a single event, so it is first come/first served (see below).

Your topic must be on something either mentioned in class or found in the Kagan (which can not be used as a source) between the time period 1450 and 2001. An "event" means specific...for instance don't do "French Revolution" but instead focus on just one of the many parts of the Revolution (like the Tennis Court oath). For any further questions, email or talk to me ASAP.

This project is due on Thursday, March 29th and will not be accepted late. It is going to be worth 60 points (or about 25% of your marking period grade).

When you have a topic, email me ASAP. If multiple people request the same topic, the first one who wrote to me will be given it and the others will be asked to come up with another one. So the early bird gets the worm in this case...
